TV RATINGS AND OTHER NOTES

WrestleMania, which airs on Peacock and not Netflix in the U.S., didn’t make the top 10 for Netflix’s “Tudum” chart. The #10 slot (North of North: Season 1) had 2.7 million global views. So both days of WrestleMania would be somewhere under that.

Royal Rumble, with similar distribution, had made Netflix’s top 10 in February at #10 with 2.1 million global views, so with easier competition in the rankings than this past week.

Despite not ranking in the top 10 globally, WrestleMania Saturday ranked in the top 10 for 28 different countries, including the UK, Canada, India, and Australia.

WrestleMania Sunday ranked in the top 10 for 13 countries, including Canada.

Netflix doesn’t disclose viewing data for individual countries, only for the top 10 globally.

The Saturday event had the advantage over the Sunday event by having the extra day to gather delayed viewing.

Note that unlike measurements for Raw on Netflix, which not only airs in the U.S. as well as internationally, Raw has the whole week to gather delayed viewing.

Netflix’s weekly “Tudum” chart provides a Monday through Sunday measurement of viewing on its platform.

WWE’s press release stated that viewership for WrestleMania this year was up 114% from the prior year. The difference includes international viewing on Netflix. We confirmed with NBCUniversal that the increase doesn’t reflect whatever the undisclosed difference was in U.S. viewership on Peacock this year versus last year. Deadline updated its story that originally indicated the 114% increase was on Peacock

WWE’s release also indicated the gate was the highest in WrestleMania history but didn’t disclose a dollar amount or percentage difference from the prior year. Last year’s two-day gate was $38.5 million including fees, or $36.1 million without fees. Additional highlights were provided by the company, all with percentage differences only from the prior year, no specific measurements:

  • Venue merchandise: +45%
  • eCommerce merchandise: +86%
  • On Location (VIP hospitality packages): +75%
  • WWE World attendees: +21%

The release also noted that the events had 28 sponsor partners and reached a new record for sponsorship revenue. WWE claimed it had 1.1 billion social media views throughout the weekend and that its YouTube channel set a record for views on Sunday.
