WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC
Sat, Dec. 14, 2024: 8:00 to 10:00 pm

1,590,000 viewers (P2+)
P18-49 rating: 0.42

Confirmed by Wrestlenomics via a Nielsen source.

An additional approximately 700,000 viewers watched on Peacock, according to an NBCU source, which would bring the total viewership across NBC and Peacock to about 2.3 million.

Update on Dec. 18: I asked NBCU to clarify whether the 700,000 viewers on Peacock represents the number of viewers watching on average throughout the duration of the program — which is how data from Nielsen including the NBC viewership data of Saturday Night’s Main Event is calculated — or whether the figure represents 700,000 accounts that may have just logged in for any part of the program. NBCU hasn’t responded yet and I will update this report if they do.

I think it’s fair to be skeptical of viewership data that comes directly from interested parties like NBCU or WWE, until we have data from a third-party like Nielsen. I think it is possible the 700,000 number does not represent average minute audience (AMA) viewership that we’re familiar with from Nielsen, and might simply represent the number of accounts that logged in to watch any part of Saturday Night’s Main Event. That said, if the measurement is of accounts and not of viewers, an account will necessarily have an average of greater than 1.0 viewers watching per account. So possibly 700,000 accounts were not watching on average but some number significantly lower than 700,000 accounts were watching. Or not. But if so, on the other hand, viewers per account could bring the number back up closer to 700,000. Or not.

This unfortunately might be a preview of the regular confusion we’re in for and maybe sleight of hand that will be tried on a weekly basis starting in January as Raw goes to Netflix, as well as AEW Dynamite and Collision beginning to be simulcast on Max.

In other primetime telecasts, the Heisman Trophy presentation on ESPN averaged 2,251,000 viewers and a 0.62 P18-49 rating. The NBA Cup semi-final game on ABC averaged 1,890,000 viewers and a 0.47 P18-49 rating. In college basketball, Gonzaga vs. Connecticut on Fox averaged 1,624,000 viewers and a 0.27 P18-49 rating. Saturday Night’s Main Event was also head-to-head with AEW Collision on TNT which averaged 246,000 viewers, its lowest ever in its normal time slot, and a 0.09 P18-49 rating.
