Thrilling data caveats

The data here comes from SpoilerTV, which is posting various weekly rankings lists for cable programs and daily reports on broadcast primetime. I’ve collected all of that data and calculated daily rankings in this report, which I’ve tried to make as like-to-like as possible with the Showbuzz Daily data many are used to looking at.

There are some problems here that make this data slightly different from Showbuzz. Although certainly most of the telecasts that should be here seem to be here, it’s not clear to me how complete Spoiler’s data is. For example, AEW Collision and AEW Rampage were omitted this week, but Spoiler has included them in prior weeks. Are there other highly-ranking telecasts missing? Maybe. Spanish-language telecasts from networks like Univision and Telemundo and sometimes TUDN are definitely missing. It comes to mind, however, Showbuzz Daily seemed to mysteriously include in its charts a few cable telecasts that were actually reruns, despite titling its chart as “cable originals”, maybe in error, maybe because the telecast had original bumpers; it’s hard to know. Furthermore, I have seen other non-public rankings charts that define the end of the day just after midnight while the data from Spoiler seems to define the end of the day a few hours later.

Surely, there are many reasonable ways to define parameters to try to answer the question, “How highly did this show rank on its day?” In any case, a more or less clear narrative emerges as the most highly viewed shows rank highly however you slice it.

For the sake of continuity with readers who were used to looking at the no longer available Showbuzz Daily charts, I’ve listed here rankings by two different criteria: (1) ranking among cable originals (applicable if the telecast was broadcast on a cable network) and (2) rankings among cable originals and broadcast primetime. All rankings are measured by P18-49 national rating, as Showbuzz did.

The first bullet point below for each show is what’s actually new information, but I will show rankings going back six weeks for context. Rankings before July 1 come from Showbuzz. July 1 and after come from SpoilerTV.
