Linda McMahon continues to be a top donor to Trump super PACs. She’ll speak at the RNC on Thursday.

Linda McMahon will speak Thursday at the Republican National Convention. She has continued to be one of the biggest contributors to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s political action committees, including two contributions totaling $10 million to the Make America Great Again, Inc. PAC, according to public Federal Election Commission records.

McMahon is only outranked by banking heir Timothy Mellon as the top contributor to the PAC.

McMahon’s contributions were made in December and March, respectively. She gave an additional $814,600 in March to another Trump-associated PAC, the Trump 47 Committee. She’s given roughly $100,000 this election season to various other committees to support Republican candidates.

In 2020, McMahon donated nearly $13 million to America First Action, the PAC she serves on as the chair, which supports Trump’s political campaigns.

Linda McMahon has donated over $40 million to political campaigns, mostly since 2014

Those payments were related to compensation for Trump’s appearances at Wrestlemania in 2007 and his later return to WWE television on Raw in 2009. In 2022, WWE was forced to amend its financial statements to account for these previously unrecorded expenses, as well as millions more in payments related to nondisclosure agreements that Vince McMahon made with many women with allegations of sexual misconduct who used to work for WWE.

Vince McMahon still hasn’t made a contribution recorded by the FEC since various 2016 donations, including to Marco Rubio’s Senate campaign.

In an interview this week with Politico, Linda McMahon expressed that she’s open to serving again in Trump’s cabinet if he’s elected. McMahon was the head of the Small Business Administration, from 2017 to 2019, during Trump’s earlier term as president.

Linda McMahon worked as an executive at WWE alongside Vince McMahon for decades. After leaving her role at WWE, she ran for U.S. Senate in Connecticut unsuccessfully twice, in 2010 and 2012.

Hulk Hogan will also speak Thursday at the RNC, according to MSNBC and other outlets.

The leader of TKO’s other primary business, UFC President Dana White, will give the final speech at the podium Thursday night at the convention before Trump speaks.

UFC has had its own political action committee since 2009, which was recently renamed “TKO Group Holdings, Inc. PAC”. The committee has raised funds in the tens of thousands of dollars, annually. The PAC has contributed to both parties but has exclusively favored Republicans since 2020, according to a breakdown from OpenSecrets.org.

Contributions to TKO’s PAC in the current federal election cycle total just $18,500. That money was sourced entirely from UFC executives: Dana White, Andrew Schleimer, Lawrence Epstein, Riche McKnight, and Marc Ratner.

TKO CEO Ari Emanuel has long been a frequent contributor to campaigns for Democratic candidates. Since 2023, he’s given to Democrats, including Bob Casey, Adam Schiff, Tammy Baldwin, Sherrod Brown, and Gavin Newsom. Emanuel’s many contributions since 1996, according to FEC records, total less than $1.4 million. That contrasts with Linda McMahon’s nearly $40 million in total donations to numerous PACs since 2014.

Records of recent political contributions from current major executives in wrestling are fewer and at far smaller amounts than those of Emanuel, much less Linda McMahon.

AEW CEO Tony Khan’s only FEC contribution record is a 2021 payment of $5,000 to the NFL’s Gridiron PAC, which has supported candidates from both major parties but favored Republicans in 2023. His father Shahid Khan, owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, has been more active over the years. Shad, too, has contributed, repeatedly, to the Gridiron PAC. In 2020, Shad gave several thousand dollars to U.S. Senate campaigns for Republicans, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue.

WWE President Nick Khan gave $1,500 in 2023 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which raises funds to elect Democrats to the House of Representatives. Other donations he’s made were in amounts less than $3,000. In 2021, he donated to campaigns for both a Republican and a Democratic congressional candidate. In 2015, before he worked for WWE, he contributed to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Paul Levesque hasn’t contributed to a PAC since a 2015 donation of $2,700 to Chris Christie’s presidential campaign.

Janel Grant files petition for records against wellness doctor said to treat WWE talent and employees

WWE Headquarters

By: Brandon Thurston & John Pollock

This article has been updated with new comments from a spokesperson for Vince McMahon and from Janel Grant’s attorney.

Lawyers for Janel Grant filed a pre-action discovery petition today against Dr. Carlon Colker and his clinic, Peak Wellness, Inc.

Grant, who is a former WWE employee, says that beginning around November 2019 she was sent at the direction of Vince McMahon to Colkerโ€™s clinic in Greenwich, Conn., where she received treatments that werenโ€™t disclosed to her, including pills and I.V. infusions.

Grant says when she asked Colker about the substance of the pills she was being given, Colker allegedly pushed back and questioned whether Grant trusted him.

Grantโ€™s attorneys wrote:

On multiple visits, Dr. Colker prescribed Ms. Grant with โ€œadrenal traysโ€ or โ€œadrenal supplement trays,โ€ provided by his office and instructed her to take the unmarked pills daily. Dr. Colker did not explain the substances, dosages, or purpose of the pills to Ms. Grant beyond purportedly addressing her symptoms of fatigue. When Ms. Grant asked Dr. Colker about the substance of the supplement trays, and specifically which substance(s) caused her to experience nausea, he responded with pushback about trust, including, โ€œIf you donโ€™t trust me, we have bigger problems.โ€

According to Grantโ€™s petition, Colker โ€œroutinely treats employees and talent of World Wrestling Entertainmentโ€.

Grant is seeking medical records related to the sex trafficking lawsuit she filed earlier this year against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis. The paper records the clinic has provided up to this point are incomplete and inaccurate, Grantโ€™s attorneys say.

โ€œFor example,โ€ the petition states, โ€œthere are billing records that do not have a corresponding medical record, medical records that do not have a corresponding billing record, inconsistent billing rates, and double charges.โ€

Grant alleges that a Peak Wellness employee was involved โ€œin several instances of sexual abuse against Ms. Grant by McMahon as further described in Ms. Grantโ€™s federal complaint.โ€

The federal complaint filed in January described, among other allegations of sexual abuse, that McMahon recruited a physical therapist, whose identity is obscured as โ€œPhysical Therapistโ€, from an unnamed clinic (referred to only as โ€œAlternative Clinicโ€) to participate in threesomes involving McMahon and Grant. Grant said McMahon pressured her into these and other sex acts.

Grantโ€™s federal complaint also alleged she was sex trafficked under the control of McMahon. She says she was sexually abused by McMahon and Laurinaitis, and that WWE was supportive of McMahonโ€™s relationship with her.

In the January complaint, Grant alleged that McMahon urged her to see a physician who is anonymized in the complaint as โ€œCelebrity Doctorโ€, who was said to operate out of the anonymized โ€œAlternative Clinicโ€.

We could not confirm if the individual referred to as โ€œCelebrity Doctorโ€ in the Grant complaint is in fact Colker and if the facility referred to as โ€œAlternative Clinicโ€ is in fact Peak Wellness.

Grant alleged in January: โ€œAfter the initial visit, it became apparent to Ms. Grant that McMahon and Celebrity Doctor wanted Ms. Grant to remain in the care of Celebrity Doctorโ€™s practice and Ms. Grant felt pressured to do so.โ€

The parties in the federal case agreed in May to put the lawsuit on hold pending a federal investigation.

A spokesperson for McMahon took issue with Grant taking legal action on Colker while the federal lawsuit is on hold.

โ€œMs. Grantโ€™s petition for pre-action discovery against Dr. Colker is a direct violation of the court-ordered stay, and nothing more than an attempt to generate publicity on her false allegations and to harass people connected to Mr. McMahon, who is being sued by Ms. Grant in a separate matter,โ€ a spokesperson for McMahon said Tuesday afternoon in response to a request for comment for this report.

โ€œThe facts are that Ms. Grant told Mr. McMahon she was fatigued and asked him to recommend a doctor,โ€ the spokesperson said. โ€œMs. Grant called Dr. Colker and became a patient of his.  Her statement in the filing is inconsistent with her prior remarks.  Ms. Grant never had anything but good things to say about the doctor when speaking to Mr. McMahon and others about him.โ€

Grant’s attorney Ann Callis responded as well this afternoon, saying, “We did not violate a federal stay by filing a state action against a non-defendant.”

We sent a message requesting comment to email addresses believed to belong to Colker and Peak Wellness but have yet to receive a response.

The new legal action naming Colker is filed in Connecticut Superior Court in Stamford, unlike Grantโ€™s federal lawsuit which is in federal court in Connecticut.

The new document filed today alleges Colker knew about the nondisclosure agreement between Grant and McMahon, which is among the issues at the center of the federal lawsuit.ย

โ€œDr. Colker had personal knowledge of the circumstances surrounding a purported non-disclosure agreement at issue in the Federal Action,โ€ Grantโ€™s attorneys wrote in the new filing.

Grant also says Colker recommended Grant work with Colkerโ€™s attorney, who helped her negotiate the NDA with McMahon in early 2022.

That claim is consistent with what Grant alleged in January about the unidentified โ€œCelebrity Doctorโ€ when Grant claimed that McMahon โ€œapproved of Ms. Grant asking Celebrity Doctor for an attorney referral.โ€

Colker is a doctor who is popular with celebrities and professional athletes. Published news stories indicate heโ€™s worked with Justin Bieber, Jeremy Piven, NBA center Kristaps Porzingis, and NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille Oโ€™Neal. Colker appeared in a 2007 reality show with Oโ€™Neal, โ€œShaqโ€™s Big Challengeโ€ on ABC that addressed challenges with childhood obesity.

The official website for Peak Wellness describes its facility as offering โ€œtraditional medical care along with advanced diagnostics, functional medicine, naturopathy, physical medicine, anti-aging, and aesthetics.โ€

The Wall Street Journal reported in February that the Southern District of New York was investigating allegations of sex trafficking and sexual assault against McMahon. In its regulatory filings last summer, WWE disclosed that a subpoena and search warrant had been executed on McMahon.

WWE Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque declined to comment on whether the company is still cooperating with the investigation when asked at the press conference following the companyโ€™s Money in the Bank event earlier this month.

The new filing is viewable below. To protect personal information and discourage unwanted contacts, we redacted certain contact information including physical street addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.

More data than you want on AEW TV ratings: 2024 vs. 2023, adjusting for network coverage, and more

Wrestlenomics is not affiliated with or licensed by Nielsen.

[ppp_patron_only level=5]

Multiple people from AEW recently showed me data to dispute a report last week from PWTorchย that looked at coverage ratings for Dynamite’s P18-49 viewership.

Coverage ratings are insightful because unlike the typical ratings data usually available to us, coverage ratings adjust for network availability, i.e., “cord-cutting”.

The report from the Torch used two data points each from 2023 and 2024, and seemed to show that Dynamite P18-49 viewership was down, even when adjusting for the availability of TBS.

To try to settle this, I got Nielsen data from a source who isn’t affiliated with AEW, to look into this further.

Based on that data, Dynamite’s average P18-49 coverage rating from January to June 2023 was 0.64. The same months of 2024 averaged 0.62, slightly lower than last year. That’s a difference of -3%. Still down, but it’s a milder decline than the -12% when it comes to the actual average number of viewers in the 18 to 49 age group. And -3% isn’t the steep decline in coverage rating that the Torch report indicated with a more limited set of data.

In terms of viewers overall, Dynamite’s P2+ coverage rating in the first six months of 2024 is 0.47, down 7% from 0.51 in 2023. Again, still down, but milder than the 14% decrease in terms of actual viewers.

Does this mean anything?

This might tell us a clearer story about AEW’s fan popularity. AEW may want to excuse ratings declines by pointing to cord-cutting, and Tony Khan frequently does. Nonetheless, even when adjusting for the diminishing availability of TNT and TBS, as cable subscribers fall, the viewership of AEW’s flagship program Dynamite has fallen, although the descent is expectedly less dramatic if you focus on coverage ratings.

Rampage looks better than Dynamite when focusing on coverage ratings. Rampage’s P18-49 coverage rating is up 6% this year versus last year. But its P2+ (total viewership) coverage rating is down 9%.

We only have two weeks in June last year to consider Collision, which includes the heavily hyped debut. So unsurprisingly those comparisons are broadly and deeply negative. It’s not a very insightful analysis, but Collision data is included below for completeness, transparency, posterity, etc.

People at AEW showed me a table that indicates people using TVs during Dynamite’s air time is down 10% year-over-year. Meanwhile, Dynamite viewership is down 15%. And people aged 18 to 49 using TVs during Dynamite is down 20%, which is more severe than Dynamite’s P18-49 viewership year-over-year difference of -13%.

For Rampage, the table from AEW shows people using TVs during Rampage is down 8% for P2+ (viewers age 2+) and down 16% for P18-49, while Rampage is down 19% and 10% in those two metrics.

TV data completely aside, WrestleTix data can give us an impression about AEW’s fan engagement. WrestleTix estimates tell us that AEW’s average attendance is down across event types. Dynamite is averaging an estimated 3,900 tickets distributed from January to June 2024, 28% lower than in 2023 when Dynamite averaged 5,400. Pay-per-view events are holding up better, down 5% on average versus last year: 10,500 this year, compared to 11,000 last year.

Some methodology notes:

We’re focusing on just January to June in this comparison to adjust for any seasonality that may (and probably does) affect ratings. Because they almost always have abnormal ratings, preempted episodes were excluded from the averages shown below. A preemption is defined as any episode that began airing outside of the program’s normal time slot or network.

All of this data represents live+same-day viewership, except for the median age “Live+3” metric which is labeled as such.

I’ve tried to translate the Nielsen viewership metrics (which have convoluted names) into plain English, so hopefully this is as clear as possible.

I’m aware we’re in a paranoid era when it comes to media trust, and that’s especially so when it comes to AEW, so for transparency, you can look through this data yourself, with all of these metrics and more in this Google Sheet here.

Methodology

“Same-market, same-event type comparison” here means we’re looking at the estimated tickets distributed and comparing that number against the last time the same event type was in that market.

This is the most meaningful way I’ve found to assess live event business. It allows us to avoid problems with comparing different markets to one another (e.g., New York, NY tends to have bigger crowds than Huntsville, AL) and different event types (e.g., PPVs draw better than Raw or Smackdown, which draw better than house shows).

Estimated WWEShop, ShopAEW eCommerce merchandise rankings: June 2024

[ppp_patron_only level=5]

Methodology:ย The listings below count the instances in which any of the related items appeared among the top items on the given website within the calendar month.

Reverse rank values were counted for any item that appeared in the top 50 on a given day. An item that was #1 received 50 points for that day. An item that was #2 received 49 points, and so on.

Keep in mind these rankings are merely an estimateย based on those factors. We’re leaping assuming that the order of top sellers on these websites reflects sales. There may be an automated process that drives the listings to appear the way they do, however, it’s possible the order could be manually manipulated.

At least one other disadvantage of this analysis is it doesn’t give us information about the volume of actual sales generated from any of these items or wrestlers/categories. That’s an unavoidable limitation of the data available, as all we have to work with is the order of the top sellers’ listings.

Note to aggregators and others sharing this report:ย These reports are often inappropriately relayed to audiences as if these are definitive merchandise sales records, which they are not. If you rely on this report, you should make it prominently clear that this report is an estimate.
